On July 30,2000 a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Japanese island of Miyakejima, about 125 miles south of Tokyo -- the second major tremor to hit the island in a day (preceeded by a magnitude 5.8 quake) and was followed by several strong aftershocks.

On July 1^st, an earthquake with magnitude 6.4 shook the Izu islands off Tokyo causing cascades of dirt and rock to fall down mountainsides (which killed a man in) and also snapped water mains and cut power; On July 5^th in the midst of killer Typhoon Kirogi, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 - ollowed by aftershocks - shook the Batanes Islands, in the Philippine Islands; On July 7^th a 5.9 quake hit Nicaragua killing at least four people with dozens of injuries and over 1,000 homes damaged; On July 10,2000 a volcanic eruption and strong 6.0 earthquake struck 100 miles south of Tokyo cracking roads, triggering mudslides and damaging homes.

Then on Friday Jul 21,2000 , in Costa Rica, an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale rattled most of the country. But what was interesting was occurrence of three other major earthquakes on the same day in diverse places. An earthquake with magnitude 5.5 shook Jakarta and other parts of Java; a strong earthquake with magnitude 6.1 rattled the Tokyo area before dawn; and a strong earthquake with magnitude 5.9 struck about 100 miles south of Mexico City. A few days earlier two people in Pakistan were killed when an earthquake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 struck Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is curious that on this same day Barak of Israel agreed, in principle, to accept the division of Jerusalem as part of the "final-status" talks.

There is no question that an increase in frequency and intensity of killer earthquakes is indicative of the birth-pains that Jesus spoke of relative to the general signs occurring upon the earth just before His return. It is probably just co-incidence that there were four significant quakes in diverse places on the same day that the "world" was ready to touch Jerusalem. But, nonetheless, an examination of the increased trend in earthquakes continues to point to the birth-pangs of the Messiah and His soon return.

"For thus says the LORD of hosts: "Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; 'and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,' says the LORD of hosts. 'The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,' says the LORD of hosts. 'The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,' says the LORD of hosts. 'And in this place I will give peace,' says the LORD of hosts." (Hag 2:6-9)
