Violence erupted in the flashpoint of Rafah in the Gaza Strip today, at the place where Israeli soldiers had earlier shot dead an 11-year-old Palestinian boy. The Israeli army said Palestinians fired shots and threw more than 60 grenades at the military post on the border with Egypt, and at another post guarding a Jewish community. Soldiers returned fire. The killing of the boy occurred yesterday during a gunbattle, sparked by Palestinians who opened fire at troops and threw petrol bombs and hand grenades. He was apparently hit in by a stray bullet. At the boy_s funeral, members of the Islamic terrorist group Hamas shouted from loudspeakers mounted on cars that they had 10 people ready to carry out suicide attacks in Israel at any moment to avenge the killing. In Hebron, Palestinian officials reported that Israeliundercover soldiers kidnapped senior Hamas activist Ayoub Sharwai from an area under full Palestinian control. Sharwai's wife was in the car with him and said he was dragged away at gunpoint. No comment from the Israeli army.

In Nablus, a Palestinian court sentenced a 21-year-old Arab to life in prison with hard labor for collaborating with Israel. Thaer Walid Jaber was convicted by a three-judge panel of assisting Israel carry out an "assassination." The charge sheet said he gave Israeli security officials information which helped them locate the car of a Palestinian intelligence officer attacked by an Israeli helicopter gunship in the city of Jenin in Samaria on May 12. The intelligence officer was slightly hurt but two other people were killed in the operation, one of many Israeli attempts to target and kill Palestinian terrorists involved in attacks against Israel. A number of Palestinians in the courtroom yelled out: "A traitor should be killed! This is unjust!" Two Palestinians have been executed by firing squads for collaborating with Israel since the Palestinian uprising erupted last September. Human rights groups and the international community have criticized the Palestinian Authority for the executions. Since the start of the uprising, several other alleged collaborators have been killed by Palestinian militants.

Renowned Israeli conductor Daniel Barenboim has set off a storm by performing the music of Hitler_s favorite composer, Richard Wagner, after agreeing to uphold an informal ban. Appearing in Jerusalem at the prestigious Israel Festival, Barenboim surprised the audience at the end of the concert when he asked if they wanted him to play the Wagner piece originally planned, but then canceled because of protests from Holocaust survivors. Most of the audience responded with loud applause, but a few protested. "This is the music of the Nazi death camps!" shouted one person. "It's a disgrace!" screamed another. Speaking in Hebrew, Barenboim appealed to the protesters to let the majority hear what they wish. "This is my personal encore to them," he said. "You can be angry with me, but please don't be angry with the orchestra or the festival management." As the orchestra began playing, the protesters banged doors and shouted "No!" but the interruptions ceased after a few minutes and the playing of the work ended without further mishap. Wagner died 50 years before Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany, but his music inspired Nazi cultural propaganda. For over 50 years, there has been an informal ban on public performance of his works in Israel, although it has been played in a concert once before. "What Daniel Barenboim did is basically cultural rape," Nazi hunger Ephraim Zuroff told israel today. "He forced the playing of Wagner on the Israeli public." Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert was also outraged. "What Barenboim did was brazen, arrogant, uncivilized and insensitive," Olmert told Army Radio. But Barenboim insists that in a democracy, people who want to listen to Wagner_to enjoy beautiful music_should be allowed to. Barenboim, a world-famous conductor and pianist, was born in Argentina, grew up in Israel and lives in Berlin. He is also the director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon concluded a quick European trip today, amid European, US and UN criticism of Israel_s policy of targeted killings of Palestinian terrorists. In Paris, hundreds of protesters marched through the streets, chanting, "Sharon, Assassin!" Leaving a morning meeting with French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, Sharon said that "things were put on the table in a very clear manner, and it is evident that we do not agree on all points." He did not elaborate. French officials said there were "differences of perception" on the targeted killings and how to apply the recommendations of the Mitchell report, especially the issue of a freeze on Jewish settlement activity. Sharon said he was trying to convince European leaders to exert "massive pressure" on Yasser Arafat to halt the violence. But French President Jacques Chirac urged him not to discredit the Palestinian leader, saying it would be "counterproductive" for peace. Sharon has launched sharp verbal attacks on Arafat recently, comparing him to notorious Saudi terrorist Osama Bin Laden, and calling him a "murderer and pathological liar," and "the leader of a terrorist gang."

Yesterday in Germany, Israel's closest European ally, Sharon heard concerns from Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder over the issue of Jewish settlements. Ever sensitive to Germany's relationship to Israel in light of the Holocaust, Schroeder said his suggestion of "greater flexibility" on the settlement issue was only a friendly piece of advice, not a request or demand. Sharon also attended a memorial service with Schroeder atthe suburban rail station at Gruenewald, from where Berlin's Jews were deported to the gas chambers under Hitler. "The experience of the Holocaust makes clear the importance of our right to self-defense and to control the destiny of our people," Sharon said after laying a wreath at the station. "We must remember that the Jewish people have one small state in which we have the right and the power to defend ourselves with our own forces, and we must daily thank the Almighty for this. It is the right of the Jewish people, after years of suffering and privation, to be the masters of our fate and to let no one control the fate of our people. We will preserve this right more than anything...I am committed, as a man, as a Jew, and as the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, to ensuring the future of the Jewish people, of each and every Jew, in the country and around the world. I do not forget, even for a moment, that every time we find ourselves obliged to realize our right to defend our security_we will do so vigorously and with courage."

Both Secretary of State Colin Powell and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan have blasted Israel for its policy of targeted killings of Palestinian terrorists, affirmed by the Cabinet on Wednesday. "We continue to express our distress and opposition to these kinds of targeted killings and we will continue to do so," Powell said. "Our well-known opposition to this kind of action is intact." A spokesman for Annan said he "is deeply disturbed by the reported decision of the government of Israel to continue the practice of what have become known as 'targeted assassinations. The secretary-general appeals to the government of Israel to stop this practice forthwith. There is no alternative to a political settlement of the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians." Annan's spokesman said the policy violated general principles of law as well as international law and human rights law in particular. "If not halted, it is bound to further aggravate the crisis of confidence between the parties and make an already extremely fragile situation even more precarious," the spokesman said. The tough statement was another sign of traditional UN bias toward the Arabs. Annan has not seen fit to condemn the daily Palestinian shootings and bombings which forced Israel to reinstate the policy of targeted killings in self-defense. Sharon said he told French President Chirac that "if [Arafat] is not taking steps, then Israel is unfortunately forced to take action."

Israelis are extremely pessimistic that the US-brokered cease-fire will hold, according to an opinion poll published today. A Gallup poll of 600 Israelis that appeared in the Hebrew daily "Maariv" showed a whopping 82 percent doubt a complete cease-fire can be reached soon, while 13 percent believe it is achievable. A majority_56 percent_believe Israel should freeze Jewish settlement construction in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip as part of a US peace plan. Fifty-eight percent said they approved of Prime Minister Sharon's performance since he took office four months ago. That_s down four percent from a poll taken a month ago.

Despite months of denials, it has now been confirmed that the United Nations has a videotape containing information about the abduction of three Israeli soldiers by Hizbollah guerillas on the Lebanese border in October. Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer told reporters that "a senior UN representative, during a meeting in my office on Wednesday last week, insisted [no cassette] existed...On Friday evening, to my astonishment, the same senior representative telephoned me and after apologizing profusely, said there is a cassette!" Ben-Eliezer said he has written a letter to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan demanding that the tape be handed over. The video was taped 18 hours after the abduction of the three soldiers on October 7, said Timor Goksel, spokesman for UNpeacekeepers in south Lebanon. It contains footage of abandoned vehicles Hizbollah used in the attack, Goksel said. He added that he had not considered the tape important because it was made many hours after the abduction. Two still photos, said to be from the tape, were shown on Israel television last night. They showed the two vehicles, including a white Toyota four-wheel-drive car similar to those used by the UN in south Lebanon. The other vehicle was black. Neither had UN insignia. Inside the vehicles, UN peacekeepers found UN insignia, uniforms and license plates along with weapons and explosives, Goksel said. The pictures seem to confirm Israeli media reports at the time of the abduction that the terrorists used UN vehicles and uniforms in the operation. It appears that the UN tried to cover up the pictures to avoid the embarrassment that Hizbollah terrorists disguised themselves as UN peacekeepers, right under the noses of the peacekeepers themselves!

Editorial Comment by To His Glory Ministries:

Things are heating up for Israel. She is surrounded by radical Muslim nations dedicated to her destruction. Russia is arming and preparing these troops exactly as the Bible predicted. And the peace process -- though fraught with problems, is continuing forward. When it eventually reaches conclusion, it may produce a false sense of security for Israel and may perhaps be the time that "Russia thinks an evil thought", and leads the radical Muslim nations in their ill-fated invasion of Israel. Or, perhaps, it is in the aftermath of the invasion that peace is achieved only to later usher in destruction as Israel cries out, Peace, Peace!

What Israel's enemies will not anticipate is God's intervention in the course of human history. The result is catastrophic for the invaders, but will change life for all mankind, as well. These events include nuclear weapons and an earthquake so large that it shakes the entire earth. But most important is that, during this time in history, God once again pours out His Spirit on the House of Israel, showing His greatness and holiness, and making Himself known in the sight of many nations. "Then they will know that I am the LORD". (Eze 38:23) God will "once again, in a little while, shake the heavens and the earth, and the sea and the dry land; and I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts."(Haggai 2:6-7) "And the desired of the nations shall come.''

``It is now the hour to awake from sleep, for our salvation is closer than when we first accepted the faith.'' (Rom 13:11)

God's righteous judgements are always redemptive. He does not desire that anyone perish, but that all come to repentance and everlasting life.

This invasion could now take place at almost any time. To prepare for it, stay close to the Lord by purifying your heart and thoughts through the daily washing of the Word. Be careful not to forsake the Holy One of Israel. Soon the culmination of all things shall begin.

Purify yourselves daily by the reading of the Word. Jesus is returning for a Holy and Spotless Church. ``Today is the day of salvation for many who are perishing; their tomorrow shall not see my return in glory to judge the living and the dead. Today is the day of their salvation." Don't delay. Time is short. You have no guarantee that you will even see tomorrow. If you die without receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior, your eternal destiny is fixed.

As we see the signs of His return drawing close, what manner of holy life should we be living? Remember that Jesus is returning for a Holy and Spotless Bride. Whether His return is today or 10 years from now is irrelevant since eternity is only a heart beat away for any of us. So choose this day whom you will serve, ask the Holy Spirit to search you to see if there be any iniquity in you, and then call upon Jesus your Deliverer. He is faithful for forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unfaithfulness.

"Watch and pray, therefore, that you would be counted worthy to escape the judgment that is coming upon the earth and be able to stand before the Son of Man" (Luke 21:36).

Maranatha!

Blessings on you all as we all wait for the return of our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Maranatha!
