Christ -- the only Hope in the midst of the storm

We often get letters asking questions, raising cautions, presenting alternative views, etc.

We are going to start publishing this information (anonymously) and our email response as appropriate as one more way to edify the Body of Christ. However, this excerpt is from a letter from a personal friend who is a mature Christian who demonstates that even in the midst of the storm, the "Rudder Holds."

None of us are immune from the attacks of the enemy and attacks will come, however, there is One who is able to Keep us until the coming of the Prince of Peace.

If you are in the throws of holiday depression, may the confidence in Christ that is expressed herein encourage you to press on toward the great Morning Star that will arise with Healing in His Wings.

This year and a half has been a difficult time for me.

Sometimes I just want to come back to the safety of friends back home; sometimes I just want life to be over so I can be with Jesus; sometimes I just don't know what I want. My husband has not had an easy time living with the mood swings.

Depression has raised its ugly head again, but this time I am in counseling with a Christian counselor at church, who is also our Sunday School teacher. When depression comes, I can't see any blessings at all -- just darkness. It would really be frightening if salvation depended on whether or not you "feel" good or if life is always viewed with "positive attitude". I'm so glad my salvation doesn't depend on my emotions but on my relationship with Christ, and that He sees my heart and my heart's struggle to keep Him in the control room, even when depression comes.

I know that at times, to the outsider looking in, I do not seem very active or that I have a very abundant life in Christ, but they have no idea how much more abundant it is today than if He were not in my life. Depression probably would have won years ago, sending me to a mental hospital, or to drugs or alcohol or whatever, but Christ has been my sustainer, my rock; He has been my tower of strength even when I didn't "feel" it.

Someday I know I will look back at this time and know that there was growth in the darkness, that the Morning Star pruned the branch of hope, even in the darkness of depression, fed it with the Living Water and transformed it into an abundant branch of the Fruit of the Spirit.

In closing, remember God is in control. KEEP THE FAITH and on a daily basis put on the "Full Armor of God (Eph 6) and pray Luke 21:36 which says: ``Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.''
