Behold, I set thee a Watchman on the Wall" (Isaiah 62:6)

The Time of Jacob's Trouble

Forward: This issue is a long one, but one you should take the time to read and pray about. As I survey the prophetic landscape it is clear that God is working out His plan of redemption for the whole world. The Day of His return may be very near and the choices we make will determine if we will be counted worthy to escape all these things [judgement] that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man." (Luke 21:34-36)

The situation in Israel continues to occupy the evening news as PLO suicide bombings against Israeli citizens are met with swift retaliation. All attempts at reviving the peace talks have failed and the PLO and Israel's situation appears intractable. The U.S. continues to apply pressure to Israel, embracing the Mitchell Plan, that calls for Israel to give up land for that all elusive peace, voting with the U.N. in resolutions calling for a Palestinian state and the division of Jerusalem .

"Land-for-peace" has been the common building block of every peace initiative including the March 25th summit designed to unite the Arab world. Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah laid out his proposal for a pact with Israel. As part of this proposal, Israel would be offered "normal relations" and security in return for a full withdrawal from "Arab" lands captured in the 1967 war and dividing Jerusalem with east Jerusalem becoming the capital of a Palestinian state.

What is being overlooked is that this is God's land, entrusted to Israel, and includes all territory from the border of Egypt to the Euphrates river.

"God said to Moses, 'I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.'" (Exodus 6:3-4, KJV)

"He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. He hath remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: Saying, 'Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:'" (Psalm 105:7-11), KJV

"After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' assistant, "Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them - the children of Israel. "Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. "From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory." (Jos 1:1-4)

On Wed Apr 17,2002, a new peace plan was proposed to Ariel Sharon which would commission a regional peace conference and initiate a long-term interim agreement during which the PA would declare a state on 65 percent of the West Bank and Gaza Strip and establish a Palestinian municipality in east Jerusalem.

The three advocates of the plan assume that it is impossible to reach an agreement with Arafat on both refugees and Jerusalem and argue that it would be much easier to solve the refugee issue and the issue of the Temple Mount in a pan-Arab context.

Did you catch that? It is possible that the peace treaty, when finally consumated, could allow the Jew to rebuild their temple!

It was also suggested that the Saudi peace initiative be embraced in principle as the basis for final status talks since it offers Israel a golden opportunity to make a peace agreement that, while requiring painful concessions from Israel, would be worth while -- since such an agreement would mean peace with the entire Arab world, including Syria.

But Israel has, for the sake of peace, caved into 97 of the Palestinian demands, only to be embroiled in war of terrorism against its civilian population -- such as the recent "Passover Massacre" in Israel.

This update from a prophetic intercessor in Israel outlines the gravity of the situation.

Did you catch that? It is possible that the peace treaty when finally consumated could allow the Jew to rebuild their temple!

The West Bank situation has become greatly more intense in Jenin and Nablus, in the last 24 hours. The IDF is pressing in hard, before the plug on military operations is pulled. Terrorist organizations in the West Bank, have distributed many explosive belts and weapons to the citizens in those areas. This AM a Palestinian woman detonated one of these devices, strapped to herself, as Israeli troops entered her alleyway. Many soldiers were injured. This will develop into a terribly bloody situation for the IDF, if more of the locals pick up this strategy. Just minutes ago, IDF soldiers shot at a man running toward them. He exploded violently, but no one else was hurt. The Palestinians are challenging the soldiers to shoot at civilians, in order to raise international condemnation. Also, the terrorists have begun to bury any Palestinian bodies in mass graves, so that the world will have photos to equate with atrocities done in other countries.

An alert has been sent out in the Spirit to immediately cover the IAF, the Israeli Air Force, for protection and discernment. We know that the terrorists have antiaircraft missiles. I do not know if this is the issue of concern to the Lord, or if it is something else raising up on the border in the North. Please pick up the intercession. We know also that Syria is stock piling weapons, while the Arab nations are getting more enraged every hour.

Finally, this hour there has been a report that G. W. Bush has phoned Sharon, and said to stop the incursions NOW. Israel needs two more weeks to clean out the viper's nests. To withdraw now will reward the terrorists and will give them time to rearm and increase. Pray that the Lord will direct this whole thing. Pray for Sharon and for Bush. Pray that the thousands of people demonstrating against Israel worldwide, will have a wake up call delivered and heard. They are cheering the wrong cause. They are damning the wrong side. God is watching. Pray for pro-Israel support to increase in the USA and abroad. This is more than just a test. A shofar is blowing in the Spirit. This is a critical point in spiritual and in natural war.

Although it might not look like it, God is orchestrating events on the chessboard called the Middle-East as He works out His plan for the salvation of the Jews and the redemption of all creation. But peace, with the ongoing violence and the history of many failed peace initiatives, would be hard to envision.

However, some day soon, there will be a peace in the Middle East -- but it will be the false peace spoken of by Daniel the prophet in chapter 9 as the Anti-christ confirms a seven-year peace treaty with Israel only to break it at the midway point.

"And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.Tthe end of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war desolations are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering, and on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate." (Dan 9:26-27)

There will peace and safety for Israel, but it will be a harbinger of sudden destruction:

"But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, 'Peace and safety!' then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape." (1 Thes 5:1-3)

The situation in Israel is growing desperate by the hour and Jews are crying out "Peace, peace" - but there is no peace. Is the stage being set for the "man of peace" to come forward with a brilliant solution that will involve the strengthening of an existing covenant?

On September 13, 1993, there was a treaty signed that was to bring peace to the troubled Middle East. The signing ceremony was on the White House lawn as Yitzak Rabin and Yasser Arafat, with President Clinton presiding, inked the contract. This contract became known as the Oslo accords and it was to last seven years with final status talks on the status of Jerusalem to be settled in September, 2000.

As negotiations on Jerusalem became the stumbling block, in September of 2000, the PLO declared a new intifada against the Jews and the peace process was declared dead.

"I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it." (Zechariah in 12:3)

The Oslo peace process was dead, but Daniel 9:27 tells us of an end-time peace treaty that will bring a false peace "as he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering." The Hebrew word for "many" is "rab", the same root word from which Yitzak Rabin gets his surname. Has the Holy Spirit given us insight that it is one of Rabin's peace covenants that will ultimately be confirmed by the Antichrist? The Hebrew word for "confirm" is "gabar", which means "to be strong and prevail insolently"

Bill Clinton was instrumental in getting the parties to the peace table. In an insolent manner, through threats of economic sanction and heavy political maneuvering, he compelled the reluctant parties to execute the agreement on the White House lawn.

Was it a coincidence that there were 3,000 officially invited guests as witnesses to the agreement since "3,000" seems to be related to accepting or rejecting God' covenant. Moses confronted 3,000 idol worshippers (the golden calf) who rejected God's agreement (covenant) and were destroyed. After Peter's first Pentecost sermon, 3,000 accepted God's covenant through Jesus Christ and were saved. It appeared that this peace agreement was of historic prophetic importance -- and yet it failed. Yet, there were many things about the Oslo Peace Accord that pointed to the seven-year treaty spoken of by Daniel 9:27, but we concluded that it could not have been that covenant because it was not broken in the middle.

However, when you consider the convergence of other Biblical prophecy pointing to the fact that we are in the last of the last days, perhaps we need to re-examine Daniel 9:27.

Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering, and on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate." (Dan 9:26-27)

Daniel describes the events as follows:

1) Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week. The seven-year Oslo peace accord may be the fulfillment of this prophecy.

2) But in the middle of the week, he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering, and on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.

In this portion of Scripture, we have several major sign-posts identified for us:

What and when is that? The "when" is in the "middle of the week" and the "what" is a reference to the rebuilt Jewish Temple.

Because of the sentence construction used by the translators of this verse, one has to conclude the week-of-years in " he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week" and the week-of-years referenced in " but in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering" is the same week of years.

However, if the seven years spanning the Oslo peace process was the same seven years referred to in Daniel 9:27, the problem is the reference to "sacrifice and offering" ending -- a reference to Temple Sacrifice -- since the temple has not been rebuilt.

But, what if the Oslo peace accord was the seven-year peace covenant spoken of in Daniel 9:27. The only conclusion would be is that the second reference to a seven-year period, is a different seven-year period during which the Temple will be re-built, temple sacrifice and offering will commence -- only to be terminated later as the temple is desecrated by the anti-christ.

Is it possible that the second reference to a week of years is a separate reference to the "Time of Jacob's Trouble" -- the seven-year tribulation period?

Consider:

DAN 9:24 "Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy. "Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times. "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. the end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. and on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate."

The punctuation, including the semi-colon between "Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;" and "but in the middle of the week" was put there by the English translators. It is certainly possible that these are two separate thoughts and not one related thought as conveyed by the semi-colon. The "but" was also added by the translators as they felt this was a continuation of the initial thought. However, the Hebrew for Daniel 9:27 reads as follows:

he shall confirm - "gabar" - to be strong; by impl. to prevail, act insolently

a covenant with - "beriyth" - a compact (because made by passing between pieces of flesh)

many for - "rab" - abundant (in quantity, size, age, number, rank, quality)

one - 'echad" - prop. united, i.e. one; or (as an ordinal) first

week; but in the - "shabuwa`" lit. sevened, i.e. a week (spec. of years)

middle of the - "chetsiy" - the half or middle

week He shall bring - " shabuwa`" - lit. sevened, i.e. a week (spec. of years)

an end to - "shabath" - to repose, i.e. desist from exertion; used in many impl. relations (caus., fig. or spec.)

to sacrifice - "zebach" - prop. a slaughter,i.e. the flesh of an animal; by impl. a sacifice (the victim or the act)

and offering - "minchah" - from an unused root mean. to apportion, ie bestow; donation; euphem. tribute; spec. a sacrificial offering (usually bloodless and voluntary)

If we consider the last "seven week-of-years" to refer to the seventieth week of Daniel (the time of Jacob's trouble - which is the context of the passage) and not the seven-year period spanning the peace treaty of Daniel 9:27, then what is in store for the Jews would correspond to events as follows:

Bill Clinton was the "prince" ["nagiyd" - a commander (as occupying the front), civil, military or religious; gen. (abstr. plur.), honorable themes] who strove to compel and force a treaty (or covenant) for one-week between the Israelis and the Palestinians? In any event, he did not succeed.

However, if Daniel 9:27 is in fact referring to two seven-year periods, then is it possible that the "Seventieth Week of Daniel" - The Time of Jacob's trouble follows this failed seven-year Oslo peace accord?

The Jews have certainly had trouble ever since September of 2000 when the current intifada commenced. Are we approaching the tribulation period -- the time of Jacob's trouble? There is nothing in the Hebrew that implies the two seven-year periods have to occur back-to-back. But we have certainly entered into the time of trouble for the Jews and if the tribulation period is fast approaching, then we would expect to have not only collaborating scripture that we are very close to this last week-of-years, but we should also start to see events that would confirm that we are very close to Messiah's return.

Consider the destruction of the Jewish Temple in 70 AD -- just as Jesus had foretold. Subtracting 70 AD from the year 2000 gives us 1930 years of desolations for the Jew. However, in computing the time of the desolation and captivity of the Jews, one has to include the seventy years of captivity under Nebuchadnezzar. 1930 + 70 = 2000 years, or based on Psalm 90, two Biblical Days -- as a day is as a thousand years. Consider the prophecy in Hosea 6:1-2:

"Come, and let us return to the LORD; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight." (Hosea 6:1-2)

If the Jews have completed 2000 years, they are in the process of being revived and we are approaching the third day where they will be raised up and live in His sight. To revive something, however, means it must have been near death.

The final corporate "death" for the Jews as a nation occurred in 70 AD with the dispersion (desolation) of the Jewish nation to the four corners of the earth.

But part of God's end-time plan is to revive the Jews and to simultaneously bring judgment upon the "kingdom of the north (Russia)", the other invading Muslim forces, and upon another nation that lives in the safety of the far-distant coastline (USA?) as prophesied by Ezekiel (See the seven-part series - The Invasion of Israel. (http://prophecyandcurrentevents.com/thglory/invade01.htm)

But before the invasion can occur, the Jews must be back in the land -- and they were dispersed to the nations in 70 AD. As we have discussed in previous newsletters, Israel was reestablished as a country after almost 2,000 years in dispersion, on the exact day predicted by scripture -- May 14, 1948. The Jews also regained control of Jerusalem on June 7, 1967 -- the exact day predicted by scripture... and today God's plan continues to unfold. (See: "The Fig Tree Blossoms" - http://prophecyandcurrentevents.com/thglory/invade02.htm)

Lost amidst the coverage of the ongoing peace process are God's continuing plans to call His children home where they will be revived. Then when the Jews are in the land, Satan will once again try to bring their total annihilation, just as he did during the holocaust. Why? Because Jesus himself said that He would not return until the Jews cried out "Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord." Therefore, if all the Jews can be destroyed, Messiah cannot return. But what Satan intends for evil, God intends for good -- which we will discuss below.

God declares: "I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number.'' (Jer 23:3) This has already occurred with the re-establishment of Israel. But the Lord amplifies His promise in verses seven and eight, telling us what to expect next.

"So then, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when people will no longer say, As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt, but they will say, As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the descendants of Israel up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them. Then they will live in their own land.'' (Jer 23:7-8)

This exodus from the "kingdom of the north" and the other countries of the world is continuing today. It is not difficult to determine the identity of the "kingdom of the north''. Simply get a globe of the world and draw a line due north from Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. You will find that the line exactly intersects Moscow, the capital of the kingdom of the north.

Exodus II has indeed begun. The Jews have been leaving Russia and returning to Israel in record numbers. In 1990 alone, nearly as many Soviet Jews returned home as had arrived since Israeli independence in 1948 -- about 200,000. In December of 1992, it was reported that 75% of the remaining 1.6 million Soviet Jews had applied for official permission to emigrate. And the Aliya (Israeli immigration under the Law of Return) continues today as hyper-inflation in Russia, gross scarcities of food and clothing, and continued anti-Semitism continues.

Here is a sample of some Russian rhetoric: "Jews are infecting the nation!'' "The Jews were to blame for the first two world wars, and it is they themselves who have provoked anti-Semitism.'' "In Russia today, Jewish children are going to school while our children are hungry. If you elect me I will put a stop to it.'' ``It would be best if they (the Jews) would all go back to Israel.''

It is no wonder that the number of Jews deciding to make Aliya back to Israel is on the rise. Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, the chief Rabbi of Moscow says: "The recent rise of extreme nationalism in Russia due to the economic situation gives us reason enough to believe that the next president of Russia will be a member of today's opposition....We must hope for the best, but prevail for the worst. I'm the last person among Jews in this country to say it, but I fear that in the long term, there is no future for the Jew here. I think we must begin to prepare our children for lives outside Russia.''

But the Jews were also returning from the other countries of the world, as predicted by Jeremiah.

Here are some selected banners from articles in the Jerusalem Post over the last few years: "Syrian Jews to be Released Soon''; "Ethiopia's Last Jews Expected Soon - Talks This Week on Immigration of Remaining 2,500''; "Ethiopian Jewery Rescued - Operation Solomon Flies 14,400 to Israel in 24 Hours''; "Yugoslavian Jews Now Keen to Come''; "Airlift from Tajikistan Arrives''; "481 North Americans Last Month''; "Sarajevo Jews are Desperate''; "Abkhazi Jews Set for Exodus''; "Albanian Jews Moved to Israel in Secrecy''.

The Syrian Jews had been in Syria for over 2,300 years. Since 1948, they were trapped in Syria. Those who were granted tourist visas in recent years were forced to leave children and families behind as collateral to insure their return. When Syria finally let some of them leave the country (they were allowed to go anywhere except to Israel), the chief Rabbi and several thousand of his flock emigrated to the United States. After spending several years in Brooklyn, New York, he said it was time to return to Israel. He took his family to Israel and told his flock that if they loved him, they would follow.

It is God himself that will regather the remnant of Israel. First from the kingdom of the north, and then from all the countries of the earth. Jeremiah 16:12- gives us additional information to help us pinpoint the timing of this event.

"..However, the days are coming,'' declares the LORD, ``when men will no longer say, `As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,' but they will say, `As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.' For I will restore them to the land I gave their forefathers. ``But now I will send for many fishermen,'' declares the LORD, ``and they will catch them. After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them down on every mountain and hill and from the crevices of the rocks.''(Jer 16:12-16)

The first part of their return will occur during a period of increased Jewish Evangelism as God "sends in the fishermen.'' This is still occurring today. With the opening of the "Iron Curtain'', Evangelical Christian groups have been pouring into Russia and the other eastern block countries. When they entered, they found such a spiritual void, after almost 70 years of communist oppression, that decisions for Christ are being made in the tens of thousands at public outreach meetings. Many of those who have been saved were Jewish. In this country, Jewish Evangelism is increasing.

Consider the Brighton Beach area of New York City where over 100,000 Soviet Jews settled within a ten-block radius. Sid Roth's Messianic Vision has established a full-time Messianic congregation in this area. They hold Boardwalk outreaches and at a recent violin concert, 40 Russian Jews came to the Lord. There is an incredible openness to the Gospel and indications that several of these converts, who are currently being discipled, are going to become on-fire evangelists for the Lord (reminiscent of the 144,000 Jewish Evangelists of the book of Revelation).

But following this period of world-wide evangelism, God will send in the hunters. "For I will restore them to the land I gave their forefathers. But now I will send for many fishermen, declares the LORD, and they will catch them. After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them down on every mountain and hill and from the crevices of the rocks."(Jer 16:15b-16)

Satan will undoubtedly cause a spirit of anti-semitism to rear its ugly head as there will be those whose desire for the Jews is to kill, maim and destroy. There is time-coming where the only place of refuge left for the non-believing Jew will be Israel. And for those who think a Jew would never want to leave America, read Hosea 11:10: "...He will roar like a lion. When He roars, then His sons shall come trembling from the west.'' Apparently something will happen in America so terrible that the Jews will leave America and return home, trembling.

When America is judged in the aftermath of the Ezekiel 38 invasion, will the Jews be blamed? Even now, in the midst of the current Middle-East unrest, a polarization is taking place as protest groups are expressing hatred for the Jews, the UN -- the forum for one-world-government -- continues to issue resolutions against Israel. Even the "man" on the street is openly vocal in response to the Mid-East crises. Anti-Semitism is on the rise once again as the Jews are being portrayed as monsters.

Gary Bauer, former U.S. presidential candidate wrote on April 1, 2002:

"The young Palestinians who are strapping explosives to their bodies have been taught in their schools and by their leaders to hate Jews and that their greatest spiritual reward can be achieved by murdering innocent women and children. Our so-called Arab "allies" - especially the Saudis - routinely print unbelievable libels about the Jewish people. In nearly every major country in the region, "serious" columnists and leaders deny that the Holocaust took place and some even praise Hitler!

This hatred is being exported around the world - in Western Europe and here in the United States - thanks to the financial resources of Saudi Arabia. Over the weekend, a wave of attacks against Jewish targets took place across Western Europe. Synagogues were torched in France and Brussels. Jewish citizens were beaten on the streets in a number of French cities. Meanwhile, European political leaders and many in the U.S. media seem more concerned about whether Arafat has three square meals a day than they do about the dead Israelis or the anti-Semitism festering in their own countries."

Consider this report from Saudi Arabia:

"In Saudi Arabia, amidst reports that Saudi Arabia is seeking peace with Israel, an article in the Saudi government daily Al-Riyadh shows that extreme anti-Semitism in the Saudi kingdom is still standard fare. The article, translated by Middle East Media Research institute (MEMRI), is written by Dr. Umayma Ahmad Al-Jalahma of King Feisal University, who graphically accuses Jews of using the blood of non-Jewish teenagers for their Purim Hamantashen (pastries) and Passover matzahs. The blood libel appeared in the Saudi paper in two parts, on March 10 and 12. It can be read in full at <www.memri.org>; here are excerpts:

"During this holiday [Purim], the Jew must prepare very special pastries, the filling of which is not only costly and rare - it cannot be found at all on the local and international markets... the Jewish people must obtain human blood so that their clerics can prepare the holiday pastries. ... the victim must be a mature adolescent who is, of course, a non-Jew - that is, a Christian or a Muslim. His blood is taken and dried into granules. The cleric blends these granules into the pastry dough... Let us now examine how the victims' blood is spilled. For this, a needle-studded barrel is used… [These needles] pierce the victim's body, from the moment he is placed in the barrel... Thus, the victim suffers dreadful torment - torment that affords the Jewish vampires great delight as they carefully monitor every detail of the blood-shedding with pleasure and love that are difficult to comprehend... This blood is very carefully collected - as I have already noted - by the 'rabbi,' the Jewish cleric, the chef who specializes in preparing these kinds of pastries..." On April 5th, "In The Cleft of the Rock Ministries, International" noted the work of the anti-christ spirit in the hearts off those who have been deceived.

"Perhaps the greatest threat, outside of Israel, is being raised up in Europe. While the former Soviet Unions is seething with anti-Semitism, the European communities have suddenly exploded with it. Norway and Sweden are threatening economic boycott of Israeli goods. Switzerland is considering joining in. Massive demonstrations in favor of the Palestinian cause, and against the Israelis are occurring throughout Europe. No doubt you have heard of the destruction of the synagogue in France, and the physical threat to the Jews in that country. A door has been opened, by the Enemy of the God of Israel, into the bitter hearts of jealous, deceived people. It is possible to hear in the spiritual realm the accusing, hateful whisperings against the Jews...familiar whispering, heard prior to W.W.II in those countries."

On April 6, 2002, the increased violence against Jews or Jewish institutions was reported:

"Over the past two weeks in Germany, Belgium and France --, which has both the largest Jewish population in Western Europe — about 600,000 — and the biggest Arab population, around four million people, most of them migrants from former French colonies in North Africa. Newspaper commentaries have blamed anger at the increasing violence in the Middle East for the attacks on Jews. At least five synagogues were damaged this week in France; one in the southern port city of Marseille was burned to the ground. Several Jewish targets were attacked late Wednesday. In Montpellier, in southern France, several gasoline bombs damaged an office building during the night between Wednesday and Thursday in what police said appeared to be a botched attempt to damage a Jewish community center in an apartment on the same street. Earlier on Wednesday, unidentified attackers set afire and destroyed a bus and car used to transport Jewish school children in the Paris suburb of Aubervilliers.

Tens of thousands of activists marched through Paris and Rome on Saturday in protests demanding Israel stop its offensive in Yesha and expressing solidarity with the Palestinians. More than 20,000 people marched in the French capital to the Place de la Bastille, where hundreds of police stood by. Some protesters carried shredded American flags and shouted slogans against Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. In Rome, about 20,000 protesters marched through downtown, ending up at a rally in Piazza del Popolo, where the crowd swelled to about 50,000 people. A few marchers at the front of Saturday's procession wore black face masks and bandannas like those worn by Palestinian terrorists. Others carried banners calling for "Intifada until victory," and chanted for a "Liberated Palestine." Other pro-Palestinian marches took place in smaller French and Italian cities. A protest in Bern, Switzerland, drew about 9,000 people. In Sydney, Australia, some 5,000 activists marched, shouting "Free Palestine" and waving flags and placards, to the Israeli and US consulates.

Calling Israel's offensive in Yesha tantamount to the exploits of Nazi Germany, hundreds of people around the United States marched in protest Saturday, demanding the US intervene in the escalating crisis. In New York, hundreds of people walked across the Brooklyn Bridge toward City Hall carrying signs that read "Sharon Hitler." Meanwhile, in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood of Miami Beach, Florida, about 250 protesters staged a rally at the city's Holocaust Memorial on Saturday, calling the Israeli treatment of Palestinians a present-day holocaust. No arrests or counter-protests were reported. The protesters were mostly Palestinian Muslims living in South Florida." (Tzemach News Service)

Clearly, world opinion is turning against the Jews and the stage is being set for their persecution.

The nation of Israel has come together again and the Jews are in the process of returning home (albeit many in unbelief), but without spirit. This was foreseen by Ezekiel in his famous "dry bones vision'' described in chapter 37.

God tells Ezekiel that: "these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off! Therefore prophesy and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, O My people, I will open your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. "Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves. "I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken it and performed it," says the Lord.'''(Eze 37:11-14).

Hosea tells us they will return and be revived after 2,000 years.

"Come, and let us return to the LORD; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight." (Hosea 6:1-2)

These two-days are 2000 years and we are living in the season where God will revive (breath life -- spirit) into the dry bones that are Israel. When will this occur corporately? Possibly in the aftermath of the Ezekiel 38/39 confrontation when as a result of their deliverance from certain destruction, Israel is once again made God-aware, and the dry bones, spiritually, will be revived -- after "two days."

"And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood. Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan. And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD." (Eze 39:17-20)

in the aftermath of the battle we see that the enemies of God are humbled in death -- as their invincible army is devastated and becomes fodder for the animals of the field. But let's look at the spiritual ramifications of these events from God's perspective.

"And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them." "So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward." (Eze 39:21-22)

God will be glorified before all the world. Even the gentile nations will see God's judgment, since the events will undoubtedly be covered on CNN. People will recognize that the Jews are still God's chosen people and are once again under His covenant protection. But more importantly, THE DRY BONES LIVE!!!

As a result of their miraculous deliverance from an impossible situation, Israel--after thousands of years--will have their spiritual blinders removed. It has been estimated that only 10% of Israel's population is ``religious''. No longer! The entire house of Israel shall know that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob delivered them. "Hear oh Israel, the Lord our God the Lord is One." They shall know the Lord their God from that day forward.

"And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword. According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them." (Eze 39:23-24)

The gentiles will recognize that the people of Israel went into captivity because of their sin -- which separated them from God. They were under judgment and dispersed to the four corners of the earth into the hands of their enemies, where they were killed, but God will have mercy:

"Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name; After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid. When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there." (Eze 39:25-28)

In these verses, God is saying that He will regather the Jews back to their homeland for His Name's sake. Then at a time when they ``dwell safely in their land'', their deliverance shall come. As a result, they will no longer be spiritually blind, but will become God-aware (revived spiritually).

From Israel's perspective, part of their spiritual revival is contingent on the Temple of God being rebuilt and according to the Bible it will be rebuilt prior to the return of Christ (Matthew 24:15, Revelation 11:1-2 and 2 Thes 2:4).

Considering all the preparations for Temple worship are nearly completed and the Ezekiel 38 invasion is in sight, it may be time to "look up." The Jews have fashioned the solid-gold Menorah, the bronze implements required for handling the sacrifices, and have computerized looms on which to weave the seamless linen worn by the priests. Over 200 priests from the tribe of Levi have now been trained to serve in the Temple.

Those stumbling blocks -- which a few years ago seemed insurmountable to rebuild the Temple-- are falling by the wayside, as God executes His time-table for the redemption of the world. For example, the royal blue dye required for the garments of Temple worship came from a certain marine snail that was thought to be extinct. A few years ago, this snail suddenly re-appeared in the Red Sea.

But temple sacrifice can not commence without the ashes of an unblemished red heifer -- required to cleanse the priests and temple.

In March of 2002 a red heifer was born in Israel. After the heifer's owner contacted the Temple Institute on April 5th, Rabbi Menachem Makover and Rabbi Chaim Richman traveled to the farm where the heifer is located, to inspect and validate her status. The rabbis found her to be kosher and were satisfied that this heifer could indeed be a candidate to be used in the process of purification of the Temple as described in the book of Numbers, chapter 19. This is an important development towards the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple.

So we know that in the aftermath of the defeat of the Ezekiel 38 invasion force, that Israel will once again becomes spiritually revived and aware of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Is it possible that the "man of peace", the anti-christ, will at that point step onto the stage of world history and confirm (strengthen) an existing treaty - perhaps the Oslo accords that are currently dead -- only to break it at the halfway point of the tribulation period?

Consider, that the Scripture of Ezekiel 38 gives evidence that the confrontation in the Middle East does include the use of nuclear weapons, is it not possible that in the panic that will follow the nuclear release, that the world will be ready to do anything to avoid another nuclear confrontation? Will this play into the plans of the anti-christ and his ultimate peace plan?

Will that plan include letting the Jew rebuild the temple and the commencement of animal sacrifices? Israel’s enemies will have been defeated by God and, according to Ezekiel and have been revived spiritually. Will this be the time to rebuild the temple? Is it possible? Yes! Then in the fullness of time, the identity of the anti-christ will be revealed as he desecrates the temple:

"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God." (2 Thes 2:3-4)

Are we close to the Tribulation? There is other evidence. It appears that mankind has completed six thousand years since Adam and is approaching the seventh millennium -- the millennium reign of Jesus on earth seated on the throne of David and the Tribulation period. For additional information on the 7000-year plan of God, please see http://prophecyandcurrentevents.com/thglory/7000year.htm

Also, as a result of the current events in the Middle East, we may be moving toward fulfillment of Isaiah 17:1 and Ezekiel 38.

"Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, and it will be a ruinous heap. The cities of Aroer are forsaken; they will be for flocks which lie down, and no one will make them afraid. The fortress also will cease from Ephraim, the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria; they will be as the glory of the children of Israel," says the LORD of hosts." (Isa 17:1-3)

Damascus has never ceased from being a city, but as Syria continues to posture for war and given the situation in Israel, this scripture may soon be fulfilled.

Gordon Thomas, is internationally syndicated and is an intelligence writer for several leading European newspapers and is contributing editor to Globe-Intel, an international newspaper devoted to intelligence matters. Gordon writes:

"Two Israeli fighter-bomber squadrons, equipped with battle field nuclear weapons have been placed on cock-pit standby. They are based at an airfield in Galilee, only minutes of flying time from Syria. The escalation of military preparedness followed an urgent report from Mossad chief Efraim Halevy to prime minister Ariel Sharon, of 'credible intelligence' that both Syria and Iraq may be preparing to intervene in the Weat Bank and Gaza hostilities.

Syria, with its massive army of 300,000 ground troops and state of the art aircraft supplied by both Russia and China, has always presented a credible threat to Israel. The hard-liners who run Syria make no secret it is only a matter of time before the day of reckoning will come between Israel and Syria. Of equal concern to Israel is Mossad's intelligence that Saddam has some 100 kamikaze pilots within a few minutes flying time from Israeli cities. The kamikazes are under the command of Saddam's son, Qusay. Mossad believe their aircraft are fitted with bio-chemical weapons."

Is it not interesting that Isaiah 17:1 points out that, sometime in the future, Damascus will be totally destroyed (We know it has to be future since it has not happened to date). And it is well known that if Israel is backed into a corner, they will order preemptive strikes utilizing whatever technology they deem appropriate, including nuclear arms. If Syria and Israel do have a military confrontation, will Syria's military alliance with Russia be the "hook in the jaw'' mentioned in Ezekiel 38 that draws Russia into its end-times invasion of Israel? Keep your eyes on God, but watch Israel.

It is noteworthy that Israel has signed six peace accords as part of the peace process, and Syria has signed none. According to Arafat, Damascus has allocated 18 million dollars for terrorist organizations operating in Syria to operate against the peace accord and the PLO. Israel has launched preemptive strikes in the past; if backed into a corner, they will take the initiative, utilizing whatever technology they deem appropriate.

If Syria and Israel or Iraq and Israel have a military confrontation, it may be that Syria's military alliance with Russia will be another of the "hooks in the jaw'' mentioned in Ezekiel 38 that will force Russia into its invasion of Israel

The London Telegraph reported on Apr 6, 2002, that Colin Powell left Washington on his Middle East mission amid reports that Saddam Hussein and Yasser Arafat were planning to stage joint terrorist attacks in the region. Senior officials of Saddam's General Intelligence Agency (GIA) are reported to have held talks with Mr Arafat's Palestinian Authority to identify potential targets.

Israel has openly stated that she will never be conquered again and, if faced with annihilation, would use the "Sampson" option (nuclear weapons). "The Jerusalem Post" reported a few years ago that Israel's new and improved Jericho missile has been deployed. The Jericho-2 missile has a range of 930 miles and can carry a payload of 500 kg with incredible accuracy.

Considering Israel has a significant stockpile of nuclear weapons, Israel can now reach southern Russia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and Libya. Rest assured that this has not been overlooked by either Russia or the radical Muslim nations, who may use it as an excuse to invade Israel and protect their borders from this "growing Israeli threat."

In any event, if Israel is put in a position of having to defend herself against overwhelming odds, or if she decides to launch a preemptive first strike, a nuclear confrontation could certainly ensue. If this occurs, the world would want peace at any cost. Enter the "man of peace" (the anti-christ) and the One-World Government, stage left

As we grow closer to the return of Jesus Christ, the spirit of anti-Christ is indeed sweeping the world, manifesting itself in every area of society, education, legal rulings, so-called art, and the media. It will continue to increase in intensity and rapidity, just as the birth pains Jesus told us about.

America's huge Jewish population will someday, perhaps sooner than we think, be leaving America for Israel. What could possibly cause a massive Jewish exodus from America? It will undoubtedly be something catastrophic. As America continues to move away from Israel, America, according to Genesis 12:3, will risk the curse of God. Will it be a massive natural disaster? Will Russia attack the U.S.A. as she moves on Israel as documented by Ezekiel (Follow Prophetic Links below for more information on this invasion) and America will blame the Jews for the destruction? In any event, the Jews will someday leave the U.S.A. as God "will bring them back into their land which (He) gave to their fathers."

HOS 11:10 "They shall walk after the LORD. He will roar like a lion. When He roars, then His sons shall come trembling from the west;

The Jews will be leaving America. The Prophet Isaiah also speaks to the events leading up to their exodus and in the midst of Isaiah's prophecy, we find that God will give people's lives in exchange for the life of a Jew. Are You Willing to Die for the Jewish People? Or will you turn your back on them when they are in crises and risk the Genesis 12:3 curse of God, or will you give your life for them. Choose this day Whom you will serve.

Read carefully what Isaiah has to say on these things.

"I am the LORD, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to graven images. Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them Sing to the LORD a new song, and His praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you coastlands and you inhabitants of them! Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits. Let the inhabitants of Sela sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains. Let them give glory to the LORD, and declare His praise in the coastlands. The LORD shall go forth like a mighty man; He shall stir up His zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud; He shall prevail against His enemies. "I have held My peace a long time, I have been still and restrained Myself. Now I will cry like a woman in labor, I will pant and gasp at once. I will lay waste the mountains and hills, and dry up all their vegetation; I will make the rivers coastlands, and I will dry up the pools. I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them. They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, who trust in carved images, who say to the molded images, 'You are our gods.' "Hear, you deaf; and look, you blind, that you may see. Who is blind but My servant, or deaf as My messenger whom I send? Who is blind as he who is perfect, and blind as the Lord's servant?

Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you; therefore I will give men for you, and people for your life.

I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west; I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' And to the south, 'Do not keep them back!' Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth

Seeing many things, but you do not observe; opening the ears, but he does not hear." The LORD is well pleased for His righteousness' sake; He will magnify the law and make it honorable. But this is a people robbed and plundered; all of them are snared in holes, and they are hidden in prison houses; they are for prey, and no one delivers; for plunder, and no one says, "Restore!" Who among you will give ear to this? Who will listen and hear for the time to come? Who gave Jacob for plunder, and Israel to the robbers? Was it not the LORD, He against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in His ways, nor were they obedient to His law. Therefore He has poured on him the fury of His anger and the strength of battle; it has set him on fire all around, yet he did not know; and it burned him, yet he did not take it to heart. But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you; therefore I will give men for you, and people for your life. Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west; I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' And to the south, 'Do not keep them back!' Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth - everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him." Bring out the blind people who have eyes, and the deaf who have ears. Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled. Who among them can declare this, and show us former things? Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified; or let them hear and say, "It is truth." "You are My witnesses," says the LORD, "And My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the LORD, and besides Me there is no savior. I have declared and saved, I have proclaimed, and there was no foreign god among you; therefore you are My witnesses," says the LORD, "that I am God. Indeed before the day was, I am He; and there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?" Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "For your sake I will send to Babylon, and bring them all down as fugitives - the Chaldeans, who rejoice in their ships. I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King." Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea and a path through the mighty waters, who brings forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power (they shall lie down together, they shall not rise; they are extinguished, they are quenched like a wick): "Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The beast of the field will honor Me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I give waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My people, My chosen. This people I have formed for Myself; they shall declare My praise. "But you have not called upon Me, O Jacob; and you have been weary of Me, O Israel." (Isa 42:8-43:22)

It may be that as a true Christian you will someday have Jewish families living in your basement awaiting the underground railroad to take them home.

It is hard to believe that the Lord chose us to be alive at the time when He will redeem the earth and those that are His – those that have received the Holy Spirit as a down payment guaranteeing our future redemption. It is the time when the fields are ripe for harvest as multitudes are in the valley of decision BEFORE the coming of the Day of the Lord (Joel). It may be that this is the time that He will send you into the harvest field for night is fast coming when no man may serve Him. Who knows whether we have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"

It may not be this year that the door to salvation closes, but it is so very close. It is like watching a storm approaching on the horizon. You don't know the exact time it will hit, but because you are watching, you know it is coming. As it approaches, the signs of the storm intensify; the wind increases, the thunder becomes louder and the lightning grows ever brighter. It finally gets so close that you expect it to be upon you at any moment.

This is how the hour of Jesus' return will be. We cannot know the exact day or hour, but if we are faithful to his command to watch, we will see the signs intensify, and we will know that it is "time to look up for our salvation draweth nigh.'' However, if we fail to watch and take heed, we will be caught off guard. Will we have enough oil in your lamp to meet the Bridegroom (Matthew 25:1-13)?

What to Do in Light of These Events

These are exciting topics to be sure, but as we see daily movement toward fulfillment of Biblical prophecy and the Return of Jesus Christ to planet earth, what should our response be?

First of all, as a "watchman on the wall'' it is my God-given responsibility to sound the warning so all who have ears to hear will take heed. But it is the listener's responsibility to diligently search the scriptures to see if what I report and hypothesis could in fact be true -- according to the Bible (Acts 17:11, 1Thes 5:21). Remember, we all see through a glass darkly.

Secondly, as we explore additional prophecies in the months ahead, we believe that there will be little doubt in your minds that Jesus' return is very close. Recognize that the coming of Jesus Christ is the reason for the signs themselves, so that the Church, when it sees the signs, can point to them as evidence of His coming. And the purpose of that evidence is to convict the sinner to seek and get right with God before it is too late. It also serves to encourage Christians to be holy and godly (2 Peter 3:11-14). The daily fulfillment of prophecy is evidence that the Bible is true. And if the Bible is true, then the Bible is correct when it says that salvation, eternal life, is found in only one person and that being Jesus Christ.

But do not get caught up in fear, but rather do the work of an evangelist. Don't get so caught up with possible future events that you forget that many shall die before Christ's Return. Today is the Day of salvation for many who are perishing -- their tomorrow shall not see His return in glory to judge the living and the dead. Today is the day of their salvation. Many are called but few are chosen. Do the work of an Evangelist day in and day out. Don't delay. Time is short. You have no guarantee that you will even see tomorrow. If they die without receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior, their eternal destiny is fixed.

Lastly, do not neglect the daily reading of the Scriptures and your time in prayer. Remember, bitterness and unforgiveness has no place with God. Purify your hearts and thoughts through the washing of the Word and think on Him continually. He will not fail you, but will accomplish all that He will through you. Do not be easily discouraged. There remains much to be done before the fulfillment of all things.

"It is now the hour to awake from sleep, for our salvation is closer than when we first accepted the faith.'' (Rom 13:11)

"But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. "For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. "Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man." (Luke 21:34-36)

"I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,' says the LORD Almighty." (Hag 2.7) "Watch and pray, therefore, that you would be counted worthy to escape the judgment that is coming upon the earth and be able to stand before the Son of Man" (Luke 21:36).

"Watch and pray, therefore, that you would be counted worthy to escape the judgment that is coming upon the earth and be able to stand before the Son of Man" (Luke 21:36).
