Salvation Through Spiritual Warfare
How to Pray for Your Moslem Neighbors, your Friends, and Family
How many have prayed for someone to be saved? How many have had a 100% success ratio? The fact is, many of us pray with very little success and yet the Bible tells us that "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (JAM 5:16b)
We know it is God's will that none perish, but although many have prayed for the lost, sometimes for years, there has been little fruit. There must be something wrong. If we have been ineffective in praying them into the kingdom, then perhaps we are not praying effectively according to James 5:16.
What is an effective prayer?
In short, it is a prayer in accordance with God's will. Therefore, in order to pray an effective prayer we need to know what is God's will for salvation? It is God's will that none be lost. So recognize that it is God's will that everyone be saved
:"For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved" (John 3:16). "Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish" (Matt 18:14). God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9b).
Now we have established it is God's will that none should be lost, we can have confidence in approaching God.
"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us -whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him" (1JO 5:14-15)
Having confidence means we can ask in faith, not doubting that God will answer our prayer:
"But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord" (James 1:6-7)
But what kind of prayer should we pray? "Is Lord save them," enough? What does the Word say? Faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17).
Therefore, the first step should be to pray that the Lord should send soul-winners bringing the Gospel Message of Salvation to the unsaved:
"Then He said to them, "The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." (Luke 10:2).
Lifestyle evangelism is not enough -- they must hear the Gospel message.
"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:13-15 NIV)
So far we have established we must,
- Pray Scripture (John 3:16, Matthew 18:14, 2 Peter 3:9b) and intercede for them in confidence that they will be saved
b) Pray that God would send soul-winners to them so they might hear the word of God.
But what if they cannot understand the Gospel message that the messenger brings?
"And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. " (2 Co 4:3-4)
Soul Winning requires spiritual warfare, because the battle for their soul is in the Spirit Realm:
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Eph 6:12)
Therefore, the third step is to take authority over the demons that have blinded the mind of the unbeliever. You can bind them, declare them powerless, and command then, in Jesus' Name, to loose their grip on the person's mind so they can see the Gospel of Jesus Christ and have the opportunity to accept Jesus' gift of Salvation. And then when the Lord of the Harvest sends in soul-winners, they will be able to hear (with understanding) the Gospel message.
Be sure to follow all these steps and let us know the results. Family members, neighbors and friends you have prayed for, sometimes for years, will now start coming into the kingdom.
One more point, do not pray that God will do something horrible to them to bring them to their knees. This is not Scriptural. When you do this you are in essence calling down a curse on the individual and sending a demon to do evil to that individual.
You might pray a prayer something like this:
Lord, I lift up John to you, and intercede on his behalf, because it is Your will that none should perish, but rather all come unto repentance and everlasting life. Therefore, I come boldly before the Throne of Grace and counter petition Satan for John's soul. I ask you Lord to give me, and other soul winners, an opportunity to bring John the Good News of Jesus Christ. I pray you will break down the stony places in his heart that the enemy is using to keep John in darkness. Lord, you tell us in your Word that whatever is bound on earth, is bound in heaven and whatever is loosed on earth, will be loosed in heaven. Therefore, in the Name of Jesus Christ, that Name that is above every Name -- that at the Name of Jesus every knee shall bow, I bind all the powers of darkness that are trying to destroy John and prevent him from understanding and receiving the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In Jesus Name, I loose warrior angels of the Lord Jesus Christ to do battle on behalf of John, so the work, word, and will of the Lord can be done in John's life. Lord, I pray that your spirit will continue to contend with John's spirit and that the enemy cannot touch him and prevent him from coming unto repentance and everlasting life in heaven with you. Amen!
