Expect the Unexpected - Part I - 09/21/2000 Update

Fire: -

In "America is Burning," you were sensitized to the spiritual ramifications of what is occurring in the physical. What is occurring in the physical is quite significant. As of September 19th, 2000, over 6,888,178 acres have burned which is more than double the ten-year averages for the annual fire-storms and the fires are still burning with currently 33 fires burning 830,040 acres in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming.

Volcanoes and Earthquakes: -

In part one of this series you were updated on the increase of seismic activity and its spiritual meaning. Things are still shaking. This week still hundreds of earthquakes have struck an active volcano in central Japan. Mount Asama, 90 miles northwest of Tokyo, was shaken by 138 tremors Monday alone -- By late Tuesday, there were an average of 40 volcanic tremors an hour. Also on Thursday, Sep 14,2000 another large earthquake hit the Fiji Islands with a 6.2 magnitude quake which was followed by a 5.2 quake.

Expect the Unexpected - Part II

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring." (Luke 21:25)

Signs of the End of the Age:

Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came to Him to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down." Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. "All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matt 24:1-8)

"And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD." (Joel 2:30-31)

"Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, Who disturbs the sea, and its waves roar -- the LORD of hosts is His name." (Jer 31:35)

"And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory." (Rev 16:9)

Signs in the Heavens: -

  • On Tuesday, Sep 21, the largest sunspot in more than 8 years, now covers an area a dozen times larger than the surface of the planet Earth! Magnetic fields above the spot have a configuration that likely harbors energy for powerful X-class solar flares which are the most violent of the four classifications. B and C-type flares are common, M-class flares are larger and more rare, but X-class flares are even less common and are considered to be major events. The Sun is still in "Solar-Max" and on September skywatchers in Europe and North America (as far west as Ohio and Wisconsin at middle-latitudes) spotted widespread aurora borealis. The display was triggered by high-speed solar wind gusts reaching 1000 km/s. Three days earlier, several faint coronal mass ejections (CMEs) had left the Sun traveling in the direction of our planet. Researchers think that the solar wind disturbances were related to the arrival of those CMEs
  • According to NASA (Space Science News) at least five sizable near-earth asteroids flew past earth just since the beginning of September. And as many as 3 of them, just in the last four days (since September 17th). There was no danger of a collision, but by cosmic standards, they were close.

Two of the near-earth asteroids were brand-new discoveries and belong to a group known as "Potentially Hazardous Asteroids" or PHAs. There are 271 known PHAs, asteroids larger than 150 meters that can come close to Earth. None of the PHAs identified to-date are destined for a collision with our planet, but PHA orbits can be chaotic as perturbations -- such as a gravitational nudge from Mars or Earth -- could change their orbits. It should be noted that two of this month's near earth asteroids didn't provide much advance warning -- one was discovered just 5 days ahead of its closest approach to earth, and another only 11 days ahead.. Brian Marsden, director of the Minor Planet Center stated that,"Yes, some will come close to Earth and miss us, but it's their subsequent passes that we have to worry about. "We're accumulating asteroids at a furious rate," says Marsden. "At the turn of the century we knew of only 500 minor planets; now we've cataloged 17,349 with excellent orbit determinations. The rate of discovery is approximately doubling every two years."

  • On September 1st, the earth had a near miss with an asteroid one third of a mile wide -- the 2000 QW7 asteroid, which originated in the belt between Mars and Jupiter, passed close to the Earth on Friday morning and had been detected only 6 days earlier The asteroid was only twelve times further away than the moon when it reached the nearest point to earth on its orbit - a close shave in cosmic terms. A One-third of a mile wide asteroid would do significant damage to the earth. Consider the 60 meter-wide asteroid that landed at Tunguska, Siberia in 1908. It flattened trees for 13 miles and killed hundreds of reindeer.. Scientists say that if an asteroid the size of 2000 QW7 - which is nine times as large as the Tunguska asteroid - were to hit the Earth, the devastation it would cause would be frightening. If it landed in the Atlantic Ocean, everything within two miles would be vapourised and the east coast of the United States and the west coast of Europe would be swept by tidal waves. Molten debris would continue to rain down for weeks after the impact, and dust particles would cause effects similar to a nuclear winter".
  • Not all asteroids burn up in the atmosphere., on Jan. 18, a 400,000-pound rock slammed into a remote lake in Canada. The meteorite struck Tagish Lake in northern British Columbia and scattered in 500 pieces It was estimated that the meteorite sped to Earth at about 10 miles per second — about 20 times the speed of a bullet. It was also estimated that the 400,000-pound meteorite was 15 feet across before it detonated in the atmosphere with a force of two to three thousand tons of TNT. Two massive explosions could be heard across parts of northern British Columbia, the Yukon and Alaska..."
  • Comets also remain a concern. On May 18th, the London Times reported that "a Comet that passed by unnoticed three years ago has raised new fears of a catastrophic collision.. It was reported that in some ways comets pose a greater potential hazard than asteroids. There are fewer of them likely to be on a collision course but detecting them well in advance is harder because they come from deep space, from almost any direction and are, on average, larger..."

The interest in asteroids and comets has increased as it has been recognized that we are not able to catch every approaching heavenly body. NASA search programs currently focus on finding asteroids more than 1 kilometer in diameter, but a recent British government report recommends giving priority to finding near-Earth asteroids (NEA) as small as 300 yards wide. The report, which describes the devastating effects of an asteroid or comet impact with Earth and the inadequacy of current international efforts to detect them, pointed out that impacts by asteroids and comets present a real and significant risk to humans and other life on Earth. The potential death toll from an impact is much higher than any known artificial or natural disaster. For example an asteroid 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) across could explode with the force of more than 25,000 H-bombs. It would blanket the Earth in a dark dust cloud for months and cause freezing conditions and crop failures. One-quarter of the human population could die in the resulting global famine.

"Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood; and a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed." (Rev 8:8-9)

"There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilence in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. " (Luke 21:11)

"There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory." (Luke 21:25-27)

Let us carefully consider the words of Jesus:

"And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilence, and earthquakes in various places. "All these are the beginning of sorrows." (Matt 24:4-8)

As we see the signs of His return drawing close, what manner of holy life should we be living? Remember that Jesus is returning for a Holy and Spotless Bride. Whether His return is today or 10 years from now is irrelevant since eternity is only a heart beat away for any of us. So choose this day whom you will serve, ask the Holy Spirit to search you to see if there be any iniquity in you, and then call upon Jesus your Deliverer. He is faithful for forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unfaithfulness.
