The September 11, 2001 Disaster - Overcoming America's Real Enemies

09/26/2001, Vince Aquilino

As we reflect on the disasters of September 11th, and the subsequent declaration of war, let us not lose sight that as Christians "we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)

Radical Islam, which is dedicated to destroying the Jew first and then the Christian, has committed murder and dealt a blow to the symbols of our economic system and military prowess. And yet we must remain mindful that "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 6:12)

Just as the spirit of abortion is the motivating force behind the "Culture of Death" fostered by the sin of abortion, it is the spiritual forces behind radical Islam that is the enemy -- not the individuals that have been deceived and caught in its grip. Jesus Christ shed his blood for these individuals: "God is not willing that any should perish, but all come unto repentance and everlasting life" (2 Peter 3:9). That is not to say that the perpetrators of these horrific crimes against humanity should not be brought to justice as expeditiously as possible, but rather that the attack should be a wakeup call that the Church of Jesus Christ, the Body of Christ, must come into her authority over the powers of darkness that were the true motivating force behind this attack.

It is the spiritual forces of evil that is the true enemy. Jesus warns us that in the days ahead persecution will increase against both Jews and Christians.

MAT 10:21-23 "Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. "And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. "But when they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes."

JER 16:14-16 - "However, the days are coming," declares the LORD, "when men will no longer say, 'As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt, but they will say, 'As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.' For I will restore them to the land I gave their forefathers. "But now I will send for many fishermen," declares the LORD, "and they will catch them. After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them down on every mountain and hill and from the crevices of the rocks."

Behind all anti-Christian and anti-Semitic hatred are unholy forces of wickedness in high places. If we are to stand in the face of the evil forces of darkness, we must know how to overcome the enemy. The Lord tells us explicitly how to be an "overcomer:"

REV 12:11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

This Scripture is so important and yet so overlooked by the Body of Christ. We need to understand how to appropriate and apply the blood of Christ in spiritual warfare if we are to successfully stand against the wiles of the enemy.

In the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ (Rev 12:7-12) we find that Satan and his evil angels will be cast out of heaven down to the earth.

"Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time" (Rev 12:12).

Verse 11 gives us the three essential requirements that are necessary to overcome the devil's wrath: "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony and they did not love their lives to the death. ``

To successfully overcome the enemy there are three spiritual weapons required which must be wielded effectively.

1. The first requirement to be an "overcomers" is to know how to appropriate the blood of Jesus Christ and to apply it as priests of the Most High God (Revelation 1:6, Hebrews 12:22-24, Rev 3:20, John 1:12, John 3:3, Romans 10:9-10, Luke 6:46).

The Blood of Christ is a critical factor in overcoming the devil, but is the most overlooked element of victory. Leviticus 17:11 tells us that without the spilling of innocent blood that there is no atonement for sin. Jesus, the Lamb of God, spilt His innocent blood for us on the feast of Passover. This was foreshadowed in the exodus of the Jews from Egypt when they placed the blood of an innocent lamb on the two door posts and the lintel of the house. The blood from the lintel would run down to the foot of the door. This is a picture of Jesus on the cross bleeding from his crown of thorns and the nails in his hands and feet. (For an understanding of the Jesus' sacrifice through crucifixion, please see Dr. Teraska's excellent article "Crucify Him"

As a result of their obedience in that first Passover, the death angel passed over their house and their first-born lived. If we are not born again and bond servants of the Lord of Jesus Christ, we cannot overcome the devil, but will remain slaves to sin. A detailed study on how to use the blood in spiritual warfare against the enemy is covered below, but first let's examine the other keys to victory of the wicked spiritual forces in high places.

2) The second requirement for "overcomers" is to become a "Bond Servant" of Jesus Christ -- who is not afraid to say so in the face of certain death. It is easy to proclaim yourself a Christian when things are easy, but when the persecution intensifies, you can only overcome the devil by boldly proclaiming that you are a Christian and a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. This will be impossible unless you have nurtured a relationship with Jesus that has brought you to a place of complete trust in His ability to keep you and hold you blameless until His coming.

This means that an "overcomer" are bond servants who have died to self (Gal 2:20): Jesus told us: "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it." Have you died to self? Can you say with the Apostle Paul: "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me?" (Gal 2:20) Or is Jesus just a name on a Christmas card, someone we hear about on Easter or Christmas, just the name of someone who lived 2000 years ago, or is He your Lord, your Savior, your brother, and your friend?

"You are my friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends.." (John 15:14-15)

We can go from servant to friend if we totally yielded to Jesus' and can have confidence that we will stand in the day of testing. Can you trust Jesus so deeply, that you do not fear death?

Let's look at the concept of a bond slave or servant. In Israel, if you became a servant of another house for any reason, on the sabbatical year (every seven years) you had the right to be set free. However, because of the love shown by your master, you might want to stay there and become a bond slave for life. If you so chose, the master would then put a mark in your ear with an awl (just as we are sealed with the Holy Spirit as evidence of our future redemption) and that would signify you were bound to that that house. You would then gladly serve the master, in total obedience, for the rest of your life. In exchange, the master of the house was responsible for your safety, meeting all your needs, and your wellbeing.

To survive the days ahead, we need to become bondservants and friends of the bridegroom Jesus Christ. This is only possible if we have you truly made Jesus the LORD of our life? And if we are Jesus' friend, then we will keep His commandments and stop sinning. Remember not everyone who says "Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he does the will of my Father in heaven." (Matt 7:21-23) Lordship means you are an obedient servant who keeps the commands of Jesus. Being born again does not mean we have license to sin.

3) The third requirement to "overcome" the enemy is our bold proclamation that we belong to Jesus -- the word of our testimony. As a born again believer in Jesus we have the authority to use the name of the Lord in battle (Phil 2:10) fully in battle armor so we can stand in the day of battle (Eph 6:10-18).

1 John 5:8 tells us that these three witness: the Spirit, the Water (of the Word) and the Blood (of Jesus). The witness of our testimony must include all three.

Nothing can stand or exalt itself against the name of Jesus, for "at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of those on the earth, and of those under the earth, and of those under the earth". (Phil 2:10)

That is to say that everything on the earth, in heaven, and in hell is subject to the name of Jesus. We can be more than conquerors through Him who strengths us, so do not be afraid to utter the name of Jesus with authority.

Ephesians 6 tells us how to put on the whole armor of God so we can take our stand against the wiles of the devil. This is a daily mandatory regimen. Do not neglect its application every day or we will able to stand in victory against the enemy.

As a born again believer in Jesus, we also have the authority to use the "Sword of the Spirit" (the word of God) in battle. However, the "sword of the spirit" is not an effective weapon unless you swing it (speak out loud the word of God). This was Jesus' example to us when He was confronted by the devil after his 40 day and night fast.

These three, the blood, the word of our testimony (which includes the right to use the name of Jesus [Acts 19:14-16] and to swing the sword of the spirit), and not fearing death are all required to overcome the enemy that has come to kill, steal and destroy you before you can accomplish what Jesus has put you on this earth to accomplish. It is time to rise up against the spirit of abortion, the spirit of islam, and other evil principalities and powers in high places.

But for the rest of this article, I want to focus on the blood of Christ and how to apply it to a spiritual warfare situation.

Perhaps we have heard some say we need to "plead" the blood of Jesus. What does it mean to "plead" the blood of Jesus? Is that a valid term? How is the blood used in spiritual warfare? What are the characteristics of the blood?

The Blood of Jesus is "precious blood"

The first thing we need to recognize is that the Blood of Christ is precious blood:

1PE 1:18-19 - "For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect."

The blood of Jesus is precious beyond description, but we can get a feeling for its value by going to the Old Testament:

1 Kings 8:5 - "Also King Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel who were assembled to him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen that could not be counted or numbered for multitude.

The blood that was spilled, according to this account, could not be determined. However, Josephus, a Jewish, historian, tells us that between 10 to a maximum of 20 people could be atoned for by the blood of one lamb. At the time of the Exodus, this would translate into (based on an average of 15 people per lamb) to about 160,000 lambs. At he dedication of Solomon's temple it was estimated that there were about 5 to 6 million people. Based on this calculation about 400,000 innocent, perfect lambs died. Josephus also recorded that on the Day of Atonement, the Brook Kindron flowed for days with the blood of the sacrificial animals reminding the Israelites that when Messiah died that He would opened a fountain that would flow forever and ever (Zech 13:1)

And yet, in Isaiah 1:11 we find that God does not delight in the blood of animals: "To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?" says the LORD. "I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats.

The sacrificial system was designed to prepare the people to receive the Messiah -- Jesus -- who, through the shedding of His own precious blood, made atonement for all the sins of mankind.

The Life is in the Blood

Secondly, we need to recognize that there is life in the blood of Christ:

LEV 17:11 "For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life."

REV 13:8 "And all who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world."

"Atonement" means covering. We saw in the Genesis account that innocent animals had to die to make a covering for Adam and Eve. God knew they would sin and break covenant with Him. He already had a plan to reconcile man back to God and that was through the innocent, spotless, Lamb of God, Jesus Christ the Messiah, who was slain from the before the foundation of the world. God already had the remedy before Adam and Eve sinned.

We can also learn from the Cain and Abel account. An examination of these events teaches us that:

  1. A blood sacrifice is the only acceptable sacrifice to God
  2. Abel's blood cried out to God from the Ground.

The life is in the blood, so somehow, when God breathed life in to Adam, that life was resident in the blood.

Therefore, when we introduce the Blood of the Lamb (Jesus Christ) into a spiritual warfare situation, we are introducing the Life of God. Since there is only Light in Jesus and no darkness, and since there is only life and no death, the application of the Blood of the Lamb in healing situations or any situation where we confronting the forces of darkness or are under demonic attack, will bring victory.

As we will discuss a little later in this lesson, Satan cannot penetrate the bloodline of Jesus.

The work of the Old Testament priests included the Sprinkling the Blood

Part of our commissioning as believes includes the sprinkling of blood. On the Day of Atonement, the priest would sprinkle the sacrificial blood on the Book and on the people. Later at Calvary, our High Priest Jesus (the Word of God) was sprinkled with His own precious blood. The High Priest would also sprinkle the sacrificial blood on the Mercy seat which covered the Ark of the Covenant. As a result of God's acceptance of this sacrifice, God would manifest His Shekinah (glory) and speak to the High Priest from between the two Cheribim.

Please note that the glory of God was seen and the voice of God was only heard when the blood was sprinkled on the Mercy Seat. In fact, if the High Priest went into the Holy of Holies without the blood, he would be struck dead. It was not enough for the High Priest to have faith in the blood for the atoning of the sins of Israel for the last year; He had to use it.

Jesus’ death made it possible for us to approach the throne of God; but only by the blood of the Lamb.

HEB 10:20-22 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

The passage in Hebrews is referring to the curtain (4 feet thick) that separated the Holy of Holies from the Holy Place. The writer is telling us that we can now go through that curtain because of Jesus, but we are to draw near with faith, with our hearts sprinkled (a reference to the blood of the lamb) and our bodies washed with pure water - a reference to the Word of God.

We enter His gates with thanksgiving and His halls with Praise, but we only enter the Holy of Holies through the precious Blood of the Lamb - Jesus.

1 John 5:8 tells us that these three witness: the Spirit, the Water (of the Word) and the Blood (of Jesus). The witness of our testimony must include all three. There is power in the name of Jesus, only because He shed His own blood and offered it to the Father who there upon gave Jesus His authority (Matt 28:18) who there upon gave it to His disciples (Luke 10:19)

EPH 5:25b -26 - "…..Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word."

1PE 1:1-2 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

Notice that Paul addresses the "elect" as those chosen for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by His blood.

We are New Testament Priests to God and we must also be obedient to the sprinkling of the blood

REV 1:6 " And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."

Therefore as priests, we must also engage in the Ministry of the "Sprinkling of the Blood."

Hebrews 12:22-24 – But ye are come unto Mount Zion, unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

"Ye are come," does not refer to the past, but rather to a continuous action in the present tense. It is our privilege as New Testament priests of the church of the First Born, to continuously sprinkle the Blood of Jesus in obedience and in faith -- not merely in passive belief. Remember true faith is faith in action (See James).

Rev 12:9 has told us how to become "overcomers" but, "overcomers" of who or what?

"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." (Rev 12:9-11)

In summary, we overcome the enemy by:

  1. The Word (of our testimony)
  2. The Blood of the Lamb
  3. Not loving our lives so much as to fear death.

All three are requirements to overcoming Satan, the author of sickness and disease, in our lives, but the most overlooked element is in the sprinkling of the Blood of Jesus

Remember 1 Peter 1-2 tells us that we are "elect….unto obedience and the sprinkling of the Blood of Jesus Christ. We are the elect unto obedience to actively sprinkle the Blood of Christ since faith in the Blood must be faith in Action.

In the Old Testament realm, the priests offered physical sacrifices of animals. The flesh was burned, but the blood was drained into basins and was USED by being Sprinkled.

The priest took a bunch of hyssop and dipped it into the blood and then sprinkled it upon the lintels and door posts of the houses of the Israelites.

As New Testament Priests, we must also offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God (1 Peter 2:5) and only the Blood of the Lamb is acceptable.

1 Peter 2:5 - "You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ."

How to Sprinkle the Blood of Jesus

1st Peter 2:5 tells us we are to offer up spiritual sacrifice, not physical ones, therefore, we must apply the blood in the spiritual realm by taking the Blood by faith and applying it by the words of our lips (which makes it an active form of Intercessory prayer). Spiritual Sacrifices are the New Testament counterpart of the Old Testament physical sacrifices.

As New Testament believer-priests, we are to take the living blood of Jesus Christ and "sprinkle it" with the words of our mouth by sprinkling (pleading) the Blood of Jesus out loud.

"Plead it" (Sprinkle) it on yourself, and on your loved ones each morning when you pray. Also plead it whenever you sense Satan's attack, are involved in administering healing or deliverance, or are attacking principalities and powers.

Sprinkling was not just valid in the Old Testament. Exodus 12:23-24 tells us to observe this thing (the sprinkling of the blood) forever.

EXO 12:23-24 "For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two door posts, the LORD will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you. "And you shall observe this thing as an ordinance for you and your sons forever.

And if we are in Christ, we are also heirs of this promise:

GAL 3:29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

We are New Testament Kings and Priests. We can enter into God's presence at any time with our petitions, but only with the Blood of the Lamb.

We must have faith when we plead (actively use) the Blood of Jesus.

ROM 3:23-26 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished"

When we sprinkle the Blood of Jesus on ourselves and on our loved ones, no demon can penetrate the blood of Jesus…but it is not there automatically, just as salvation is not automatic; healing for the body is not automatic; all of the promises of God are not automatic. We must meet the conditions. The promises are all obtained through active faith and obedience in meeting the conditions. When we sprinkle the blood with authority we have an assurance that Satan cannot penetrate the blood of Christ.

Satan cannot penetrate the Blood of Jesus Christ

EXO 12:7, 12-13, 22-23 - "And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two door posts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it…. "For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD…. Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt…. And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two door posts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning. For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you."

The "Destoyer" is the King of the Bottomless Pit. See Rev 9:11 Abaddon - in the Hebrew or Apollyon in Greek . This is Satan. The destroyer cannot get through the blood of Jesus Christ unless through disobedience we let it down. If the Israelites had come out of their homes which were covered by the blood during the Passover, they would have died because of disobedience.

If we are in Christ, we are both kings and priests of the Most High God. Kings command and priests engage in the ministry of the sprinkling of the blood.

The enemy does not want you to know your position and calling in Christ. But now you know both your position and your authority in the name and the blood of Jesus Christ. Begin to actively use them both and you shall be an "overcomer" to the glory of God. As far as not fearing death, ask the Lord to help you to each reach the spiritual level of Galatians 2:20.

The church of Jesus Christ must rise up and attack the strongholds of the enemy. This word was given several years ago, but is more relevant today then ever before. It became known as the Anaheim Prophecy:

  Anaheim Prophecy

"My Church, My Church, how I have sorrowed over you, how I have longed to take you under My wing. Where in you, My Church, do I behold the life that I have given you? Where do I see in you the resurrection power?

I have sent you forth to change the world, but the world has changed you. Day by day you yield up precious ground. Are you unaware that the ground you yield is blood-stained?

I heard you, day by day, calling out to Me. You say, "Empower us, Lord," and I empower you. You say, "Fill us with your Spirit Lord," and I fill you.

And then I say to to you, "Move now -- My renewed, empowered and filled church"

And you say, "Renew us, Lord, empower us, Lord, fill us with your Spirit, Lord"

Is my church never to understand? A call to battle can never be a time inaction for waiting. While you wait, the enemy advances. He is filling your trenches, he is advancing on the last bastions of your position, and yet you wait.

Now I hear you calling once again. You say, "Give us Revival, Lord." I will. Revival is coming. Revival is near. Revival is rising up before you. Do you see it? No, you do not see it. But, I tell you it is there to be seen. How then are you to see it?

You will see it when you begin to march. Blow the trumpet, raise the cry. Around the city of the enemy you must go. Let my Church lead off. This is the call to battle. Circle round the positions of the enemy. Hem him in. Act in courage. Do not falter. Blow the horns.

Then I will see the church that is sprung forth from me -- My church -- My people -- and I will revive you."

When will the church of God throw down petty doctrinal differences and come together in unity against the true enemy? Perhaps it is you, who were born for such a time, who will mobilize the churches in your area to join together in corporate prayer and warfare meetings against the enemy before it is too late.

Rise up you Holy nation!

Several years ago, the Lord specifically instructed me to reveal to you the power of His blood and His Holy Name. In addition, came an admonition to not delay in the things of God and a promise that although the darkness may attempt to swallow those still in the grip of the enemy, that He will still light their path to everlasting righteousness. Are you willing to be that light that rages against the darkness?

Here is the personal word – may it also be a source of encouragement to you:

Reveal to them the Power of My Blood and My Holy Name

"Reveal to them the secret of the ages; the Power of the Blood and my Holy Name. Nothing can stand or exalt itself against my Holy Name. Although many rise up against you, none shall stand for I am with you. My Rod and Staff shall comfort you and shall strengthen you in the day of battle.

Everlasting peace shall be the reward of all those who honestly seek Me in truth and diligence. I shall be found by all who inquire with a thirstiness of heart. But many shall run to and fro and yet to their end they shall come because they rejected Me, the Author and Finisher of all that is righteous and Holy on the earth.

Forever shall you stand in my presence. Delay not in the things of God for the time is short. "Zeal for Me and My House" shall be your watchword. Seek them out with diligence for they are mine. I will preserve them by my right hand and nothing shall prevail. Although the darkness shall swallow them, I will light their path to everlasting righteousness. Never doubt, but prevail in truth and righteousness for My Name's sake. The battle is won. They run and scatter at my Holy name. They return to test those I have delivered to see if their heart is truly fixed on me. If they take their stand, they shall prevail. xxxxx is mine, bought at a price. Pray for her at all times, for her deliverance wrought in the crucible shall bring glory to me name.

The battle rages, but learn. Forget not My ways. Trust in my Holy Name and Blood and my Glory shall rise up before your eyes."

Consider joining "Prayer Warriors Against Abortion" for if this wicked stronghold of the enemy is not torn down, our days as one nation under God are numbered. Also pray against and tear down the stronghold of the radical spirit of Islam that has blinded the eyes of so many to the gospel of Jesus Christ for without spiritual warfare they shall remain blind to the God of their salvation -- Jesus Christ.

"Watch and pray, therefore, that you would be counted worthy to escape the judgment that is coming upon the earth and be able to stand before the Son of Man" (Luke 21:36).

Maranatha!
