Prophecy and Current Events

Behold, I set thee a Watchman on the Wall" (Isaiah 62:6)

12/02/2000 - Prophecy Update

Vince Aquilino

In this article, the unprecedented flooding will be highlighted along with some observations of accompanying draught, heat waves, and strange animal behavior. Prophetically we continue to approach the Day of the Lord and His soon return.

"There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea." (Jesus Christ - Luke 21:25)

"The floods have lifted up, O LORD, The floods have lifted up their voice; The floods lift up their waves. The LORD on high is mightier Than the noise of many waters, Than the mighty waves of the sea. Your testimonies are very sure; Holiness adorns Your house, O LORD, forever." (Psalm 93:3-5)

In "Expect the Unexpected - Part 5, The Floods have Lifted Up - A Sign of Judgement?" I reported on the high incidence of unusual weather world-wide -- in particular unprecedented flooding. In Psalm 93:3-5, the Psalmist noted that the floods have lifted up their voice. Let's think about that. A voice is for communication, so what is being communicated here?

In Luke 21:25 Jesus told us that just prior to His return, the nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea."

When I survey the prophetic landscape, it seems to this watchman that the floods have indeed lifted up their voice. What are they saying? They are saying that judgement is at hand and the Lord is returning soon.

I encourage you to read the previous article

and then continue here. Conditions have not subsided, but appear to be growing in both intensity and frequency, just as in the birth pains that Jesus referred to when He characterized how natural disaster will accelerate just prior to His return.

On Friday, November 17,2000 , Climate researchers sayid that if the current trend towards warmer temperatures continues, roughening seas could threaten coastal areas in northern Europe. Average winter wave heights in the north-east Atlantic have increased by about a metre (3.28 feet) Southampton Oceanography Centre, UK, said: "We know waves are getting

higher but we don't know if this is due to global warming.

This is a literal fulfillment of Psalm 93:3-5: "The floods have lifted up, O LORD, The floods have lifted up their voice; The floods lift up their waves. The LORD on high is mightier Than the noise of many waters, Than the mighty waves of the sea. Your testimonies are very sure; Holiness adorns Your house, O LORD, forever." (Psalm 93:3-5) and is just one more sign that Jesus told us that would occur just prior to His return: "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken." (Luke 21:25-26)

Consider the following current events relative to these prophecies:

ALASKA

Further evidence of rising sea levels is found in Alaska where the average temp in Alaska is rising almost 10 times faster than the world average, affecting the landscape and ecosystems.

The once-permanently frozen ground that used to reinforce this coast is thawing. Climate change has also brought a higher sea level and more destructive storms Usually, by early November hunters should be travelling over the ice with teams of huskies, or fishing in local rivers but he's noticed that each year they're needing to wait longer. "In my younger days we would normally have been out over the ice covering the inlet" says Mr Nayokpuk, the 71 yr. old village elder. "Now there's nothing but water back there. I think the climate is becoming warmer, all around us."

Almost all Alaska is covered by a layer of permanently frozen ground, which is thawing in the higher temps, steadily destroying millions of acres of spruce and birch trees. The forest is turning into a watery fenland, and destroying the habitat for much of the state's wildlife. If the warmer climate persists, they're all expected to be dead by the end of the century, unable to survive in standing water. It's not only Alaska's huge forests that are drowning in the swamps created by this great thaw. Forests on once permanently-frozen ground across vast tracts of Russia, Canada and Northern Europe are also in jeopardy. Dr Glenn Juday, a forest specialist with the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, says that as the forests die, they are feeding the process of global warming in a terrible vicious cycle. Rotting trees are producing millions of tons of carbon dioxide, and of methane, one of the most potent greenhouse gases of all.

Surface ice is disappearing even faster than the permafrost. On average Alaskan glaciers have been losing 15% of their length every decade. Many have lost almost 1/2 their thickness and some are in rapid retreat, melting far more quickly than they can form new ice. Water locked up for centuries in glaciers and ice caps is being added, drop by drop, to the rising level of the sea. In Shishmaref, isolated in the tundra on the very edge of North America, it means the abandonment of a village inhabited for more than 4,000 years.

"It's been a lot warmer than how it usually was, and we need to go where it's safe" she says.

Indonesia

On Tuesday, Nov 28,2000, deadly flooding in Indonesia is the worst natural disaster to hit the region in 20 years. The death toll has reached after 4 days of heavy monsoonal Small villages were buried under tons of rock and mud. As many as 75,000 people in West Sumatra were forced from their homes and many of the people left homeless were "on the brink of starvation." Roads to major towns have been washed away, which has disrupted food supplies. Power and communication lines also are down. The deadly flooding in Indonesia is the worst natural disaster to hit the region in 20 years. The death toll has reached 146

Ausralia

On Wednesday, November 22,2000, the worst flooding in eastern Australia in at least 40 years forced numerous evacuations on Monday. The floods were fueled by 2 weeks of ongoing downpours that have pushed 12 rivers in the region over their banks. At least 3,000 people in Tarnworth (NW New South Wales) were left isolated after the Peel River burst its banks and surged through the city. The entire city of Woolomin, 18 miles upriver from Tamworth, was evacuated to a shelter when homes were inundated by floodwaters. Numerous other communities also braced for major flooding.

Italy

On Wednesday, Wed Nov 22,2000, at least 5 people in northern Italy were reported missing and hundreds of others were forced to evacuate on Monday as pounding rains triggered fresh landslides. The new slides came after disastrous flooding hit the region in mid-October, cutting a swath of destruction though the country. Many areas in the stricken region have received more rainfall in the past month than a normal year. The day before, four people in Italy were killed by new mudslides along the NW coast, triggered by pounding rains. The country's civil protection services were put on full alert.

Sweden

Sweden's worst flooding in a century hit parts of the country during the weekend (November 25-26, 2000), as heavy rains brought lakes and rivers to dangerous levels. The western city of Arvika was forced

to pump water from its streets on Sunday into Glafsfjorden Lake, which then swelled to more than 10 feet above its normal height. Officials of Stockholm's underground railway announced they were preparing to close parts of the network if floodwaters continued to rise. Rainwater has flowed from mountains in Norway into Lake Vanern in western Sweden, inundating thousands of acres of cropland and threatening homes and factories. Officials predicted that the problem would continue until next spring or summer.

Sri Lanka

During the weekend of November 18-19, 2000at least 2 people in eastern Sri Lanka were and nearly 25,000 others left homeless in flooding triggered by four days of incessant monsoon rains. Vast areas of the region's districts 220 miles east of the capital Colombo, were submerged after area rivers burst their banks. Disaster relief officials struggled to evacuate victims to higher ground, but inundated roads hampered rescue efforts.

Vietnam

On Tuesday, November 21, 2000 at least 26 people in Vietnam's central coastal provinces have died in floods triggered by torrential rains that have pounded the region since the end of last week. Water levels in rivers along a 500-mile stretch were at dangerous heights. Roads in the mountainous region were damaged by floods, and transportation to the area was impeded. The floods also damaged parts of the national highway linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as parts of the main North-South railway in the southern province of Ninh Thuan. On Friday, a train in Khanh Hoa Province was pushed from the tracks by floodwaters, killing the engineer. These latest floods hit while water from the worst flooding in at least four decades was still receding throughout the Mekong Delta. Nearly 480 people, including 331 children, in the Mekong Delta have been killed in floods since late August.

Venezuela

Floods also caused a State of Emergency in Venezuela as several days of flooding rains have prompted a state of emergency in Venezuela, with at least 3 victims and thousands losing their homes. The rain is drenching the same region where massive flooding and mudslides killed approximately 15,000 people just last December.

Great Britan

On November 27, 2000, it was reported that Britain is coming to the end of its wettest autumn since accurate record-keeping began more than 230 years ago surpassing the record set in 1766 and there is more rain coming this week. Autumn's relentless rainfall has caused the worst flooding Britain has seen for more than 50 years. The Prince of Wales spent Friday in North Yorkshire where residents are still struggling to recover from the worst floods in living memory -- "I can hardly believe how deep the water had got. I do feel very much for everyone trying to struggle," he said. "It will take such a long time to dry anything out. I think this is the worst time of all."

To add insult to injury, 'Super Rats' have invaded Britain that is not vulnerable to any present day poisons. Not only have the rodents

developed resistances to previously deadly poisons, but they have now been learning from other rats to avoid the poisons after witnessing their effects. The English rat population had soared to its highest levels in recent memory. Reports of rat infestations have risen 18 percent in just the past year.

Not only is valuable farm land being rendered useless by the vast flooding, but with such a huge increase in rats, the diseases rats carry, may spread also.

It is not hard to envision the apocalyptic four riding (Rev 6).

Canada

Consider the numerous wolf attacks on town dogs in a remote community in NE Canada that was reported on November 13, 2000. It has caused the schools to close for the 3rd straight day as parents were warned to keep their children indoors. Police in Newfoundland's coastal city of Nain reported that an officer had seen what appeared to be fresh wolf tracks near a home on Thursday. The attacks have prompted fears that the wolves' unusual behavior could be an indication they are infected with rabies, however, Baillie of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said, "The wolf that was shot

appeared healthy. It doesn't appear to be a skinny animal that was starving. It's hard to say what's bringing them into town." The predators have made numerous forays in recent weeks, attacking at least 10 dogs and killing two. Robert Otto, a senior wildlife biologist with Newfoundland's Department of Forest Resources, said, "These wolves are coming right into the community and are being viewed as a threat." Wolves are nocturnal creatures and usually very wary of contact with humans.

There is much of this in the news, with animals displaying unusual behaviors, and now coming into communities in search of new homes

and new food. This has been increasing a lot over the last several years with all the record breaking weather around the world.

Joel 1:15-18 Alas for that day! For the day of the Lord is near; it will come destruction from the Almighty. Has not the food been cut off before our very eyes- joy and gladness from the house of our God? The seeds are shriveled beneath the clods. The storehouses are in ruins, the granaries have been broken down, for the grain has dried up. How the cattle moan! The herds mill about because they have no pasture; even the flocks of sheep are suffering.

REV 6:8 And I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

God says, through the prophet Amos: "......you have not returned to me, declares the Lord. I also withheld rain from you when the harvest was still three months away. I sent rain on one town, but withheld it from another. One field had rain; another had none and dried up. People staggered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me, declares the Lord." (Amos 4:6-8)

DESERTS ARE ADVANCING

On November 13, 2000 it was reported that massive areas are being turned to deserts and threatening vast swaths of land in Pakistan, India and China. Hama Arba Diallo, Executive Secretary to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, said, "The desert is encroaching on massive areas in western China, affecting areas containing 400 million people. The desert has moved to within 100 miles of Beijing, and in the long term this desertification will have serious effects on food scarcity and people's health and will force more people to migrate." Northern China has suffered a record of 12 dust storms this year, which were triggered as the desert rapidly approaching Beijing at the rate of 1.2 miles per year. The UN group warned that the encroachment could have catastrophic consequences on both human and animal populations. Dust from the region's deserts has blown into the Korean Peninsula and Japan, decreasing air quality there. India and Pakistan are also beginning to suffer the same negative effects of the growing deserts. The blame is given from deforestation to global warming.

Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink

In Israel, the Sea of Galilee has reached a record low! On Monday, Nov 27,2000 , it was reported that "The Kinneret (Sea Of Galilee), Israel's main aquifer, on Sunday reached an unprecedented low level of -213.80 meters, only 20 centimeters from the newly set ‘red line.’ Water officials have released an ominous prediction of a shortage of drinking water during the summer of 2001 if the winter is not one of abundant rainfall. "

In addition to floods and draughts, the 1990's was the hottest decade on record globally and deaths from heatwaves in big cities worldwide are expected to double over the next two year. "Heatwaves are expected to become a major killer," said World Meteorological Organization Secretary General Godwin Obasi. In the 15 biggest U.S. cities an average of 1,500 people collapse and die from heatwaves each year, a significant increase over the past decade. The annual death toll from heatwaves in those big U.S. cities is expected to balloon to 3,000 to 4,000 by 2020, he said. Other cities around the world expected to see burgeoning deaths from heat include Toronto, Shanghai, Athens and Madrid, Obasi said. Carbon dioxide and other gases, scientists say, will boost global temperatures by between 2.7F to 10.8F during this century. U.N. scientific experts say a warmer world is likely to spread disease in tropical regions, cause sea levels to rise and increase the rate of severe storms. Globally, the 1990s was the warmest decade on record and 1998 the hottest year. Weather record keepers say the average temperature of the last 10 months is the warmest such period in the industry’s 106-year historical database.

The Book of Revelation talks about searing and intense heat from the sun on the earth and its people. We've been seeing that with the record heat and record ozone. With all these records and crazy weather going on all around the world, we can expect to see increases in famine and disease as the apocalyptic predictions of the Bible are fulfilled before our very eyes.

Come quickly Lord Jesus!

Maranatha!

Purify yourselves daily by the reading of the Word. Jesus is returning for a Holy and Spotless Church. ``Today is the day of salvation for many who are perishing; their tomorrow shall not see my return in glory to judge the living and the dead. Today is the day of their salvation." Don't delay. Time is short. You have no guarantee that you will even see tomorrow. If you die without receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior, your eternal destiny is fixed.

``It is now the hour to awake from sleep, for our salvation is closer than when we first accepted the faith.'' (Rom 13:11)

As we see the signs of His return drawing close, what manner of holy life should we be living? Remember that Jesus is returning for a Holy and Spotless Bride. Whether His return is today or 10 years from now is irrelevant since eternity is only a heart beat away for any of us. So choose this day whom you will serve, ask the Holy Spirit to search you to see if there be any iniquity in you, and then call upon Jesus your Deliverer. He is faithful for forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unfaithfulness.

"Watch and pray, therefore, that you would be counted worthy to escape the judgment that is coming upon the earth and be able to stand before the Son of Man" (Luke 21:36).

Maranatha!
