On Tuesday, July 25,2000 the White House: the White House formally announced the end of the Camp David II summit. U.S. President Clinton Clinton immediately began focusing on yet another interim agreement that would postpone the issues of Jerusalem and Arab refugees until a future date.
Clinton specifically mentioned that Israeli Prime Minister Barak advanced farther than Arafat from their initial positions (remember that "Barak" comes from the Hebrew root word from which we get "kneel").
Apparently, Clintons acknowledgement of Barak's willingness to kneel in the negotiations was a politically tactful slam against Arafat -- who according to Israeli sources [granted, may be biased] gave negative answers to every substantive proposal offered by Barak (including Clinton's 'bridging' proposals).
Arafat threatened that if the words "Palestinian sovereignty" do not appear in any future agreement (in reference to parts of the Old City and the holy sites), he would not sign it. So it appears that Zachariah was correct:
ZEC 12:1-3: "The burden of the word of the LORD against Israel. Thus says the LORD, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him: "Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. "And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.
Tensions in the Middle East remain high and are described by some as to indicate a state of "on the brink of war".
At his juncture we will have to see if a conflict ensues. If it results in the Ezekiel 38 invasion of Israel and judgement on the Russian-led and Russian-armed army comprised of Israel's enemies, the U.S.A. may also come under God's judgement at that time. These events would provide the opportunity for the "man of peace" to appear on the scene with the solution to the world's problems and with the U.S.A. "distracted" by judgement, could facilitate the rising of the revived Roman Empire.
